Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about acupuncture, treatment planning, and care.
Clear answers before care.
These questions cover treatment, planning, insurance, herbs, supplements, and how care fits alongside other healthcare services.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most patients experience little to no discomfort during treatment. Acupuncture needles are very thin and differ significantly from those used for injections or blood draws. Many patients find treatment relaxing, and some even fall asleep during their session.
How many treatments will I need?
Treatment recommendations vary based on the condition, duration of symptoms, overall health, and treatment goals. Your treatment plan will be discussed during your evaluation and adjusted as progress occurs.
How quickly will I notice results?
Some patients notice changes after their first treatment, while others experience more gradual improvement over time. Recovery timelines vary depending on the condition being treated and individual circumstances.
What conditions do you treat?
Care is organized around four primary focus areas: pain and musculoskeletal recovery, neurological health and recovery, performance and recovery, and complex conditions. Additional areas of care include women's health, digestive health, and preventive care when a patient's concern does not fit neatly into one category.
Do I need to take herbs or supplements?
No. Acupuncture treatment can be provided with or without herbal medicine or supplements. Recommendations are made only when they are clinically appropriate and aligned with your treatment goals.
Are herbal medicines safe?
When prescribed appropriately and sourced from reputable manufacturers, herbal medicine is generally well tolerated. Medication use, medical history, and safety considerations are reviewed before recommendations are made.
Will I need laboratory testing?
Not necessarily. Many patients begin care without additional testing. Laboratory assessment may be recommended when it could provide information that helps guide treatment decisions.
Do I need a wearable device or health-tracking app?
No. Wearable devices and health-tracking applications are optional tools that may provide useful information for some patients, but they are never required for treatment.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. Insurance coverage varies by plan. Please contact the clinic or review your benefits to determine whether acupuncture services are covered under your policy.
Can I use HSA or FSA funds?
Many patients are able to use Health Savings Accounts or Flexible Spending Accounts for acupuncture services. Please consult your plan administrator for specific eligibility requirements.
Can I continue seeing my physician or other healthcare providers?
Yes. Acupuncture and integrative care are often used alongside conventional medical care and other healthcare services. Recommendations are intended to complement, not replace, appropriate medical evaluation and treatment.
Can you review laboratory results I already have?
Yes. Existing laboratory results may be reviewed and incorporated into treatment planning when relevant to your care.
